As a University of Cambridge qualified (CELTA+) English Language teacher, with over 4 years' teaching experience,  and a (soon-to-be) graduate of Bath Spa's internationally recognised, industry leading Creative Writing programme, I am pleased to now be able to offer a limited number of private lessons, in both English and writing (creative or for business purporses).


Due to my current workload and lifestyle, I am only able to accept 'virtual students' and do all my teaching online. To help facilitate lessons I use Skype, for one-to-one or group video calls, and Google Docs, as an online platform to help teach, demonstrate corrections and monitor  students' progress. If you are new to either of these, please see instructions, below, or contact me via email and I'll help set you up.


Whatever your nationality, level of language, or requirements I would be pleased to hear from you and will do my best to help you reach and exceed your goals.



How Lessons Work:


English Language:


a) I offer a totally free, 30 minute trial, over Skype, in order to check every new student's level and discuss their individual needs and targets. This will also help me select an appropriate text book, should one be required (which I usually recommend).


b) When ready to begin lessons, I will discuss appropriate mutual times with each and every student (please note: I highly recommend sticking to a tight and planned schedule). Lessons can be booked at any time, up to and including the day you require them. I will then provide confirmation of the booking, if possible, in writing, which I can usually do instantly. Lesson's can be cancelled up to 6 hours prior to their start.


c) Lessons, themselves, usually follow a similar routine, which I have succesfully developed with numerous existing online students. Typically: we start off with a 5-10 minute warm-up and homework check; we then spend the majority of the lesson working on individual and focussed exercises (using either textbooks or online source material); finally lessons are finished with error corrections, which will have been noted throughout the lesson on your Google Doc. Appropriate advice/feedback is given, in writing, at the end of each and every lesson.




a) We will begin with a free 30 minute consultation, during which we'll discuss your individual needs: as each and every student will have different requirements/interests/writing styles I will then tailor make and recommend a direction for your course based on the consultation.


b) Lessons will be spent either doing writing exercises, using key source material developed by leading practitioners in the field, or workshopping and editing your existing pieces (which should be sent in advance of a lesson).


c) Full book/script editing and marketing services are available upon completion of your course, or for existing professional writers. Please ask for details.

Payments for lessons should be made at least one week in advance, via Paypal or directly to my bank account (details available on request).

How to use:

1: Go to and download the application from their homepage.

2: Set up your account.

3: Add me as a contact (my username for teaching is: teacher.ben)

4: Call me by clicking on the icons at the top of the skype box.

Google Docs is an online and interactive word processor, just like Microsoft Word (which it can also interact with). Using a Google Doc will allow me to highlight your mistakes, in writing, provide a visual reminder for pronunciation errors and act as a record for your lessons with me. In order to work with Google Docs please follow these instructions:


1: Go to and follow the instructions/download the app from that page. You will need a Google or Gmail account to edit any documents, so if you haven't got one, please create an account following the links on the above page.

2: I will create an individual doc to act as your lesson record, and send you over the link, via email.

3: Please open the Doc before each and every lesson, as I will be updating live, when we speak.
